Value addition reduces bulkiness, helps in improving the quality and reduces cost of transportation. Right method of harvest; primary processing incl. grading, sorting, packaging & transportation; and conversion of crop into many downstream products enhances the value of agriculture commodities. Value addition includes simple method of bringing the produce from farm-gate to consumer as fresh as possible, to that of manufacturing nutraceuticals, food supplements and even composite foods. Several innovative products are introduced year after year globally and future of agriculture depends on innovative value added products. Value addition to agri commodities by branding and labelling is the other option gaining momentum in recent years, which has to be explored for better value realisation in the market.
